Aconite (2005)
Review by Jeff Hudson

Directed by: Ben Dixon
Starring:
Jim O’ Rear/Larry
Neil Derrington/Robert
Linnea Quigley/Nikki
Jeff Wilson/Aconite
Plot:
In 1590, the Diet of Augsburg ruled that gypsies were the spawn of Satan and, therefore, had no rights whatsoever. The ruling allowed Christians to kill gypsies without penalty, which sparked the church to organize a small group of religious assassins to carry out the dirty work. Unfortunately, the band of killer priests were not informed that the gypsies had made a pact of protection with a powerful werewolf clan, so all hell broke loose. Four hundred years later, the bloody war between the church, gypsies and werewolves rages on and it's up to a small-town police chief to end it or die trying.
Acting:
The acting in this movie was ok for the most part, Jim O’ Rear(Larry) was good as the lead guy and was easy to relate with, Neil Derrington(Robert) was great as the wise ass, obnoxious cop, and we also get some cameos from Linna Quigley, Gunner Hansen, Reggie Bannister, Debbie Rochon and Lloyd Kaufman.
Gore:
The gore was ok when shown, we get some off screen stuff, a club to the head, flesh ripped off, a guy strangled, a machete to the face, a slit throat, stabbing, a girl impaled, guy stabbed with a pitchfork, some biting, and some sword action.
T & A:
We get one boob shot.
Directing:
Ben made this film look real cheap looking, and some of the sets look aweful, looked like just a film he made with some extra time on his hands.
Soundtrack:
We get a real cool score and some rock music.
Final thoughts:
Aconite looked and felt like a real crappy low budget movie like a lot that is out there today, it takes itself way to serious and tries to be something it’s not. The acting and gore was ok, but the plot and way it was done was bad. I think they could of left out the small cameos and put a little more into the movie itself. I give it a 4/10.
