From Sam Rami’s humble 1981 film, Evil Dead came horror’s oft quoted man of action Ashley J. Williams.

When we first meet Ash, he is a lovable geeky guy next door. But things quickly change after he simply turns a tape deck on. Ash quickly develops a more badass side after a couple of zombie encounters. Ash is so lovable because he confirmed something we all know deep down: inside every fan boy and girl a zombie killing machine.

Through the Evil Dead series, (which via video games, comics and other media has become a nice little universe of its own) we see the transformation of Ash, from humble store clerk to a slick action hero, who makes Arnie green with envy.

The mix of gore and comedy in these films has become somewhat of a template for countless pieces; you really don't need to look far to find references to the series. Also amazingly enough, Evil Dead as a rating of 100% for all 41 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. And now Bruce Campbell’s post modern twist on the massive popularity of Ash, My name is Bruce will be hitting the big screen this year.

Ash, is the MacGyver of horror, the dude has a chainsaw as his prosthesis, great one liners and no mullet. Between Rami’s direction and Campbell’s performance, one of modern horrors most popular and enduring characters was formed.
