Aftermath (1994)

Review by Jeff Hudson

Directed by: Nacho Cerda
Starring:
Xevi Collellmir
Plot:
When the others leave for the night, the last mortician begins to fondle the corpses. He quickly moves to the corpse of a young woman who died in a car crash, tearing her clothes off and mutilating her body. He then mounts her and rapes her corpse while taking pictures with a camera and timer. He brings her heart back home to his dog for food.
Acting:
The was not much of a cast other than Xevi who goes nameless in this short film. There is no speaking in this film but his actions were strong and disturbing to say the least. This guy just makes you sick and repulsed.
Gore:
There is plenty of gore with a autopsy scene that is hard to watch, we get organs and other body parts taken out and his dog eating a raw human heart which is gross. Also the rape of a dead body that is just to much to stomach.
T & A:
We get a dead female body and a guys wang but trust me you don’t want to see this.
Directing:
Nacho did a amazing job making this look very big budget. The video is crisp and the Autopsy room is very modern and clean which is very unique for horror flicks. I was really impressed for a short film.
Soundtrack:
We get a great score that is classical and just makes the feel of the film very disturbing yet beautiful.
Final thoughts:
Aftermath is a one of a kind short film that would very hard for most people to sit through. The scene of him violating the corpse is just horrible and not fun to watch. With that being said I was glad I had seen this but would not want to go back and watch again. Nacho said in an interview the reasoning behind this film and his other shorts are his fear of death, this helps to understand why he made this and makes it a little more easy to sit through and good to know he is a sick crazy guy. I give this film a 6/10.
