Against The Dark (2009)
Review by Jeff Hudson

Directed by: Richard Crudo

Starring:
Steven Segal/Tao
Keith David/Lt. Waters
Jenna Harrison/Dorothy

Plot:
Katana master Tao (Steven Segal) leads a special ops squad of ex-military vigilantes on a massacre mission, their target: vampires. On the post apocalyptic globe, sucked dry by bloodthirsty vampires, a few remaining survivors are trapped in an infected hospital. Tao is their only hope and he knows the only cure is execution. Now it's time for the last stand against the flesh-eating vampires and there's nothing left to lose but the last of humanity.

Acting:
This is where the big let down is Steven Segal(Tao) was barely in the movie at all until the last 20 minutes or so and even then he just hacked down some vampires in slow motion and that’s about it. Keith David (Lt. Waters) also played a very small role he was only around for about 5 minutes of the movie.

Gore:
The gore was fairly good, we get a lot of sword action from the man himself, some gunshots, guts munched on, limbs ripped off, stabbing, and some biting.

T & A:
We get 1 brief breast shot I believe.

Directing:
This was Richard’s first film and you could tell, he did a lot of the slow motion shots in places that didn’t need it, and a lot of flashbacks of zombies….I mean vampires eating people. The film was also way to dark and a lot of stuff that was going on you couldn’t make out too well.

Soundtrack:
I have no idea about the score so it must have been really bad or not used much.

Final thoughts:
Against The Dark had some fun potential with Segal being in his first horror movie, they could have given us some fun action and broken bones, but no we didn’t get any of that. We just got some lame action with vampires that can be killed by normal gunshots, stabbing, or a snapped neck, oh and they look and act like zombies eating brains and guts. This movie was a cluster fuck and I would stay far away from it. I give it a 2/10.
