Aaah! Zombies! (aka Wasting Away) (2007)

Review by Adam C. Thomas

Directed by Matthew Kohnen
This movie produced a novel idea: show the other end of the zombie spectrum, or what it’s like to be a zombie. Four friends working at a bowling alley are lounging around one day before they open, and one of them decides to mix beer with the soft serve ice cream. Unbeknownst to them all, the beer actually contained a government developed toxin that turned people into zombies. Throughout the movie they have to figure out just what the hell is going on, as the world around them has seemingly gone mad.
I really appreciate what this movie tried to do. However, everything about this movie was sophomoric and juvenile. The acting was stale, the jokes were all tired and I really wasn’t feeling the movie as a whole. I wish they had put a little more effort into the script, instead of just seeming like a slew of vignettes about what they think it might be like to be a zombie.
If your thirst for zombie movies is unquenchable, then check this one out. Otherwise, I’d say give this one a pass. Overall, I give this movie a 3 out of 10.
