Be afraid, be very afraid...

In 1958 a film called The Fly explored our fears of technology gone bad. In 1986 a film called The Fly explored our fears of technology gone bad. Oh wait did I repeat myself?

That is quiet understandable in these circumstances; both films centred around the technological fears of their period. Cronenberg was once of the very few directors who has been actually able to genuinely update a film.

Both films centre about the same ideas, the focus of these films is on the issues of science versus nature rather that something topical which could easily be manipulated.

In short, the plot follows a scientist who creates a matter transporter. He tests the machine on himself, however a fly stumbles upon the experiment. This leads to two mutant half-fly-half-man creatures carrying on.

This stands out as a remake because it actually modernises its source material, where as so many others promised they said they would but however only produced second rate versions of the first.

Croneneberg is probably the only director to actually re-imagine an already strongly developed concept. That and he know hoe to make a horror film.
