Bled (2009)
Review by David Rupp

Sai, a young artist living in a downtown warehouse delves into an ancient world of blood and lust. An enigmatic foreigner seduces her to try a long forgotten drug making her the prey of a dimensional vampire who needs her new found hunger for blood to cross over from his world to hers.

I had high hopes and expectations for this movie, and though it was a spectacularly shot and well acted piece of filmmaking the angsty storyline just fell short of exhausted. You can see the story laid out as always before, forbidden passion, the figureheads (Johnathan, Lucy, Mina, Count) and I will give much credit to the vision and style of this movie, the tale needs to be retired for a while.
Moving back to visually, the images in Bled are a stunning collage of ancient hazy dreaminess and modern nightmare. Beautiful to behold and entertaining. My only problem was the predictible nature in wich it unfolds, the familiar story, pressed weakly into another mold. If you are a fan of angsty, woe is me, goth laden vampireesq movies, this may be right up your alley. If you are expecting shimmery beautiful lovers, uh-uh, wait for the Twilight sequel. A georgeous car crash, go ahead and take a spin. 5/10
