Blood Car (2007)
Review by Mari Lynne Rupp

In the near future, gas prices are unmanageable by working class families, and only the well-to-do can afford to drive. Archie Andrews, in attempting to find a cheaper fuel alternative, discover human life is cheaper than petroleum in this sad attempt at a futuristic satire and social commentary.

Directed by Alex Orr and story by Hugh Braselton, this indie offering attempts to make a commentary of our dependence on oil and fuel prices. Featuring Anna Chlomsky (My Girl) and Mike Brune, the camera work is pretty good, the premise of the film is brilliant, but the weak dialogue and unbearable monologues let this drag to the bottom, almost encouraging the audience to wish for its ending sooner rather than later.

Mike Brune's monologues, meant to sound edgy, I'm sure, just end up pitiful and dorky. The actress, Katie Rowlett, tries to look sexy and cute while playing up Mike Brune's character for the use of his car, but ends up looking slutty and cheap. Sorry hon, it's true. If the writing had been a bit tighter, and the directing a bit less intense, this film might've ended up with a larger distributor., but as it stands, it unfortunately falls rather short.4/10
