Body Count
Review by Bindi Lavelle
Writer- Shaun Hutson

Shaun Hutson’s Body Count is a solid piece of survival horror, constantly upping the ante as the plot twists and turns. What could have easily been a revenge tale with a gimmick is expertly shaped into a take no prisoners page-turner.

Detective Inspector Joe Chapman and his New Scotland Yard team have been investigating some amazingly elaborate snuff films being posted online. Through a surprising and captivating turn of events, Chapman finds himself the star of the next snuff film. He is now forced to fight his way out.

Body Count opens like an episode of Law and Order, however once the pace picks up it does not relent. Hutson is a writer unafraid to maim, torture and even kill his characters. This is refreshing to read; rather than ending with sunshine and lollipops, we get to see a conclusion that is both satisfying and realistic for the book’s events.

Body Count provides a tight, tense mixture of mystery, adventure and violence.6.5/10.
