Bong of the Dead (2011)

Review by David Rupp

When the world is taken over by flesh eating zombies, best friends Tommy and Edwin figure out a way to benefit from it by turning zombies into fertilizer for growing potent weed! There will be bud.

Written and Directed by Thomas Newman
Starring: Simone Bailly, Mark Wynn and Jy Harris

Underdog, against the odds, whatever you want to call it Bong of the dead is it. Reported as one man, one camera, a computer and an idea, this is the ultimate low budget film gone right. Yes, there are some things that will tip you off to the indie status, but overall it is extremely well put together. Try it out you may be surprised.
While not having a large cast, the main characters deliver a fine line balancing act. Wynn and Harris are just so off the wall as to be believable, as well as running through some serious moments. The zombies were okay, but they were fun, everything came together to make a coherent story that keeps you interested if only to see what the stoned out duo does next.
I dug this film on several different levels, from the comedic wasted stoners to the survival aspect to the development and complex interpersonal relations. Shaun and Ed, Tucker and Dale meet Edwin and Tommy....party on.
