Catching Hell (Samhain Publishing)

Review by Mari Lynne Rupp
Author: Greg Gifune
Four friends from a community summer stock theater in Cape Cod drive to Maine for a restort getaway before college starts....On the way, they encounter a freak storm and lose their way, finding the small quaint town of Boxer Hills, which they soon realize isn't as quaint as they thought...Eventually they learn the deadly secret that the townspeople are hiding and that it might literally cost their souls to escape.
Attention grabbing, and compelling dialogue kept me riveted to the story...Mr Gifune describes 1983 very well, avoiding campy pop references, and just telling it like it was back then....The interaction between the characters is just perfect, and the backstory between Alex, Stefan and Billy was touched on just enough to explain the relationships, but didn't mince words or waste detail.
What made this book so compelling was that you thought you knew what was going to happen next...Then the author takes it to a different level, taking you by surprise on a completely different journey.
Thanks to the hard-and-fast writing style, this book was easy to get through to the twist ending (you think you know how it ends, but you don't. Trust me.)
This is just a great book, and I think Greg Gifune has found a new fan.
