Crowley (2009)
Review by David Rupp

He was known as ‘The Wickedest Man In The World’ or simply ‘The Beast’. More than 60 years after his death, the demonic life and works of British occultist Aleister Crowley has continued to capture our darkest imaginations. In this provocative supernatural thriller co-written by legendary Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson, a virtual reality experiment gone wrong sends the soul of the infamous madman into the body of a shy university professor (a fearless performance by Simon Callow of FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL). But even as Crowley creates all-new orgies of depraved pleasures and black magick, is he now preparing to unleash the ultimate occult event upon the world? John Shrapnel (MIRRORS) and Richard Franklin (DOCTOR WHO) co-star in this over-the-top satanic shocker featuring classic songs by Bruce Dickinson and Iron Maiden.

Starring Simon Callow, Kal Webber, Lucy Cudden, Jud Charlton

Crowley was a treat to watch from beginning to end, alot of fact and mythology came together to form a bond that keeps you rivited to the screen just to see what will happen next. Anyone familiar with the lengendary madman will get to see him finaly run wild.

In a bizarre mix of magick an science, the beast is brought back to our realm of existance through a stuttering weak willed proffessor. The tone pace and mood for this film are set almost perfectly, even though there seems at times way too much going on to follow accurately. I also have to applaud the acting in this as well, strong and brave with all the trappings of indulgence on the part of Callow.

All in all I very much recomend that you dear viewer, rent, buy or watch on demand, this depraved tale of a man who was truly an insane genius or addicted malcontent, you decide. 9/10
