Cutting Class (1989)
Review by Jeff Hudson
Directed by: Rospo Pallenberg
Starring:
Brad Pitt/Dwight
Jill Schoelen/Paula
Donovan Leitch/Brian
Roddy McDowall/Mr. Dante
Plot:
Paula Carson's affections are being sought after by two of her classmates Dwight, the "bad boy", and Brian, a disturbed young man who has just been released from a mental hospital where he was committed following the suspicious death of his father. Soon after being released, more murders start happening. Is Brian back to his old tricks, or is Dwight just trying to eliminate the competition?
Acting:
The acting in this movie was pretty bad, even for a b movie slasher flick, Brad Pitt(Dwight) was kind of funny as the dickhead jock guy, but yet at the same time he was easy to relate with, Jill Schoelen(paula) didn’t add a lot to the female lead role other than just wanting to study every minute of the day, Donovan leitch(Brian) played the creep pretty well, but almost to likeable to see him as that much of a oddball.
Gore:
There was a lot of death scenes but man was it cut and chopped bad, there’s not much blood at all here, we get a arrow to the stomach, guy burned alive, a slit throat, a crushed head, a flag pole to the stomach, a axe to the head, and a hammer to the head.
T & A:
Just one pair here, pretty lame for a 80’s slasher flick.
Directing:
Rospo did a horrible job with dragging scenes out and making this feel like a long boring ass movie, I also want to point out the bad cuts, and the film just seems real choppy.
Soundtrack:
We get some rock music here and there, and the score was pretty cool.
Final thoughts:
I was pretty disappointed with Cutting Class, I was thinking it would be a fun cheesy slasher movie, but no it was boring, felt like the film would never end, and the gore and death scenes were cut so bad half the time it was hard to tell how or if the people even died. To me this movie was just pointless and I could have cared less if I had seen it or not. I give it a 3/10.
