Damned By Dawn (2010)

Review by Mari Lynne Rupp

The overview of this movie is Claire brings her boyfriend to the family farm to see her ailing Grandmother. A few weeks earlier, Grandmother had mailed a mysterious package to her earlier, and of course, ignoring the warning in the message, Claire brings it with her to inquire of its nature. Claire is rewarded of warnings not to interfere with Gran's passing, which, of course she does, and angers a funereal spirit called a Banshee, who awakes the dead to life with her shrieks. And the dead are pissed off.... This Australian offering written and directed by Brett Ansley, promises to satisfy our appetite for "Evil Dead 4" Looking very like an Evil Dead hommage, only with Celtic legends replacing Sumerian, this movie was fast-paced and well-acted with a definite "Evil Dead" vibe but lacking the raw style Raimi had for the Evil Dead movies. Not that this isn't worth the watch...Definitely! Just don't have any expectations of the regular Candarian demons...These evil dead are a bit more....Nasty. 8/10
