Dantes Inferno: An Animated Epic (2010)

Review by David Rupp

Dante's Inferno Animated is a real and truthful epic animation film that shows Dante Alighieri's journey through the first part of the afterlife, Inferno. It is a compelling four-quadrant film organized circle by circle in a chronological descent to the center of Hell, and to the exit into Purgatory. Dante's Inferno Animated is recited in primitive Italian in Dante's own words, as well as narrated in English and Spanish for a better understanding in these non-original languages. Dante is guided by his hero Virgil through each circle of Hell and their subdivisions until they reach the center of the Earth and emerged to the other hemisphere into Purgatory. It features over 50 original color illustrations from the upcoming Dante's Inferno comic book and magazine series, put together in a series of animation clips that will delight a young and mature audiences.
Written by: Dante Alighieri Adapted by: Dino Di Durante and Directed by: Boris Acosta
I am a big fan of Alighieris writings, I have read the Devine Comedy trillogy not for any class but for my own enjoyment on my own time. Inferno is one of those stories that embed itself into your mind and becomes a part of your ongoing psyche long after the pages fade from conscience memory. Anchor Bay has released a Blu Ray of immense power a stunning visual buffet that should keep even the most marginal of animation fans interested.
You all should be familiar with the story of Dante, escorted by Virgil through the circles of the inferno. This story departs a little from the original, Dante led by Virgil has to traverse the circles of the inferno to save his love Beatrice from the greedy clutches of Satan himself. Along the way he battles the "bosses" of each circle to pass to the next, with stunning artwork and tantilizing animation. The BR adds to the clarity and scope of it over all, I was just slightly disappointed with the special features wich consisted of only storyboard to animation sequences.
Overall I do reccomend you see this, whether a lover of Dante or an animae fan this has plenty to offer everyone. 9/10.
