Deathdream (1974)
Review by Jeff Hudson

Directed by: Bob Clark
Starring:
Richard Backus/Andy
John Marley/Charles
Lynn Carlin/Christine
Anya Ormsby/Cathy
Plot:
A young Soldier is killed in the line of duty in Vietnam. That same night, the soldier returns home, brought back by his Mother's wishes that he Don't Die! Upon his Return, Andy sits in his room, refusing to see his friends or family, venturing out only at night. The horror is secondary to the terror that comes from the disintegration of a typical American family.
Acting:
The acting in this movie was pretty good, Richard Backus(Andy) was creepy as hell and didn’t really say a lot in this movie but he didn’t need to, John Marley(Charles) was great as the old fashioned dad, he was the most believable and added a ton to the movie.
Gore:
There wasn’t a lot of gore her it was shot mostly off camera, we get some off screen stuff, stabbing, strangling, a guy ran over by a car and some gunshots.
T & A:
None of that stuff here.
Directing:
Bob didn’t do a great job with the setting, everything seemed the same and could have used more, not to mention the lighting was pretty shitty to, Bob has done much better in his career.
Soundtrack:
We get a killer score that is creepy as hell at times.
Final thoughts:
Bob Clark is a great director so going into this I was looking forward to it but I felt really let down. There is some real good acting here but the whole story felt not all there like a big piece was missing, even at the end I ripped off, I guess I felt there needed to be a bit more explanation of what was going on. I would say check this one if you can rent it and judge for yourself. I give it a 4/10.
