Deep Blue Sea (1999)

Review by Jeff Hudson

Directed by:Renny Harlin

Starring:
Thomas Jane/Carter
Saffron Burrows/Susan
Samuel L. Jackson/Russell
LL Cool J/Preacher

Plot:
Scientists are conducting research on regenerating brain tissue in sharks, hoping to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease. But when their funding is threatened, the pair decides to take a dangerous shortcut. Through DNA modification, they breed larger sharks with larger brains -- and near-human intelligence. Soon, the sharks grow resentful of their captivity.

Acting:
The acting in this film was pretty good. We get a well rounded cast of different personalities. Samuel Jackson(Russell) chews up the screen with his acting and outdoes everyone else in this movie. Saffron Burrows(Susan) I thought could have been written better she is doing something for a good cause but comes across as a person you cant stand. Thomas Jane(carter) is kind of just there to kick the sharks ass. Last but not least LL Cool J(Preacher) played a great small role and added a lot to this movie.

Gore:
There wasn’t a bunch of blood or gore but we do get a lot of good stuff here. We get a lot of shark attack scenes, sharks getting killed in many different ways, a arm bit off and people blown the fuck up.

T & A:
None of that stuff unless you cont a lot of nude sharks.

Directing:
Renny does a great job with this cool unique location in the sea. We get some real nice shots and makes a film that looks like a huge summer blockbuster with the fun of a B movie.

Soundtrack:
We get a huge big budget score that was great and of course with one of stars being LL Cool J we have to get some of his music thrown in there.

Final thoughts:
Overall Deep Blue Sea was pretty fun flick that I feel doesn’t take itself too serious. I mean how can you really go wrong with sharks on steroids going around killing everyone in sight. This along with a strong fun cast makes it a movie I would recommend checking out. I give Deep Blue Sea a 6/10.
