Dracula’s Daughter (1936)
Review by Jeff Hudson

Directed by: Lambert Hillyer
Starring:
Gloria Holden/Dracula’s Daughter
Otto Kruger/Jeffery
Edward Van Sloan/Von Helsing
Marguerite Churchill/Janet
Plot:
Prof. Van Helsing is in danger of prosecution for the murder of Dracula until a hypnotic woman steals the Count's body and cremates it. Bloodless corpses start appearing in London again, and Hungarian countess Marya Zaleska seeks the aid of Jeffrey Garth, psychiatrist, in freeing herself of a mysterious evil influence. The scene changes from foggy London back to that eerie road to the Borgo Pass.
Acting:
The acting in this film was pretty boring and dull unlike Dracula, Edward Van Sloan(Von Helsing) wasn’t used much in the movie and that’s too bad because he was the bright spot to this flick, Gloria Holden(Dracula’s Daughter) didn’t add a lot to the main role and I felt they could have got someone a lot better to play her.
Gore:
There is no gore here but remember it’s 1936, but we do get some off screen stuff, a arrow to the heart, and some gunshots.
T & A:
None of that stuff here.
Directing:
Lambert didn’t add the gothic feel to this one that the first Dracula had, instead it was a pretty bland setting and not a lot to look at.
Soundtrack:
We get a ok score that added something good to the movie.
Final thoughts:
Dracula’s Daughter was a big let down to me, I loved the original Dracula but this sequel was nothing like the original. The acting was lame, the look of the movie wasn’t as good to view other than the last 10 minutes when the go to Transylvania. I would say stay away from this movie and just watch the original. I give it a 2/10.
