Evil (Το Κaκo) (2005)

Review by Jeff Hudson

Directed by: Yorgos Noussias
Starring:
Mary Tsoni/Jenny
Argiris Thanasoulas/Argyris
Meletis Georgiadis/Meletis
Plot:
Today, the streets will be bathed in delicious human blood as a plague of walking undead invade downtown Athens. It's up to a group of random strangers-including a wise-cracking cab driver, a teenaged girl who just lost her parents, a tough-guy soldier, a tougher young woman - to save the day as the flesh-eating hordes sink their teeth into fresh meat.
Acting:
The acting in this movie was pretty good other than the fact of being in another language so I couldn’t really remember who was who half the time and a lot of the guys looked alike. Mary Tsoni(Jenny) was good as the little girl but defiantly didn’t look like a 14 year old. Argiris Thanasoulas(Argyris) had some funny lines and added some good dark humor to this flick.
Gore:
This is where the movie shines big time, we get lots of biting, tons of gunshots, limbs ripped to pieces, heads rolling left and right and tons of other creative stuff that I would spoil. Some of the stuff in this movie is just inventive and great.
T & A:
None of that stuff here and did not need it.
Directing:
Yorgos did a good job with the editing here there was some great shots where they would cut to what was going on at the same time through 3 different camera angles. The flick just looked all around good.
Soundtrack:
We get a great score that mixed some jazz riffs and some good old school suspense tracks that was a good throwback. I also want to mention that the surround sound was killer for a movie like this and if you have 5.1 if defiantly helps with the mood of the movie.
Final thoughts:
Evil was a good change for a zombie flick, it stuck to all the bases of what a zombie film is about but it added it’s own original feel. I thought the run time was good and the mix of dark humor helped but it still felt like a serious film. I felt you could really get behind all the characters here and no one really felt like a throw away which is hard to find these days. Overall if you’re a fan of zombie films this is a great gem to seek out. I give it a 7/10.
