Evil Dead 2 (1987)
Review by Jeff Hudson

Directed by: Sam Raimi

Starring:
Bruce Campbell/Ash
Sarah Berry/Annie
Dan Hicks/Jake
Kassie DePaiva/Bobbie Joe

Plot:
Ash, the sole survivor of the original 'Evil Dead' returns with his girlfriend Linda to the remote cabin in the woods. He discovers a tape recorder that a professor had used to record incantations from the Necronomicon. When he turns it on, the recording releases a dark, sinister force from the woods. It turns Linda into a zombie, her soul possessed by some hideous demon, and then tries to do the same to Ash. Other people come to help Ash, but one by one they are taken over by the Evil Dead force that also possesses Linda, the Professor, and the Professor's wife...and they try to make sure Ash is...Dead by Dawn!

Acting:
The acting is pretty good for the most part but there is only one main star here and that is the man himself Bruce Campbell(Ash). Unlike the first film his acting comes across more cheesy and comedic, which I think makes the flick more fun. The rest of cast doesn’t come in till well later on and are bodies to get possessed.

Gore:
The blood flows big time, we get red blood, black blood, green blood, there is something for everyone. As for the goods we get a cut off hand, biting, some chainsaw action, some stabbing, gunshots, a eyeball popped out, a guy hacked up to pieces, and a tree attack scene.

T & A:
We get one decrypted pair of breasts.

Directing:
Sam does a simply amazing job with his unique simple low budget shots that work on so many levels, and the use of sound is key to the craziness and adds a lot to the flick.

Soundtrack:
The score here is way drowned out because of all the crazy sounds effects but it was good just not that noticeable.

Final thoughts:
Evil Dead 2 is like a remake of the first film but at the same time a lot different. This one adds a lot more humor and is real fast pace compared to the first. I would say you wouldn’t need to The Evil dead to understand what is going on in this sequel, I can say that because back before DVD’s the first Evil dead was very hard to find and I actually seen the sequel before the original. If you are a fan of the original you should like this, just don’t take it seriously. I would say this is a definite buy so go check it out. I give it a 8/10.
