Funny Games (2007)
Review by Jeff Hudson

Directed by: Michael Haneke

Starring:
Tim Roth/George
Naomi Watts/Ann
Michael Pitt/Paul
Brady Corbet/Peter

Plot:
In this English-language remake of a deconstruction in the way violence is portrayed in the media, a family settles into its vacation home, which happens to be the next stop for a pair of young, articulate, white-gloved serial killers on an excursion through the neighborhood.

Acting:
The acting in this film is fantastic, Tim Roth(George) I believe gives his best performance to date, along with Naomi Watts(Ann) the body and facial reactions of both look and seem so real to life you just have to feel for them, Michael Pitt(Paul) and Brady Corbet(peter) are creepy as shit and are way to believable in there roles, especially Michael Pitt, this guy is just amazing in the role he played.

Gore:
Other than one gunshot scene this movie is dry when it comes to the red, we do get some off the camera stuff like more gunshots, but this is a perfect example of it’s better to not show us and let are mind do the thinking.

T & A:
Nothing here.

Directing:
Michael did a wonderful job with camera work, and the way he drew stuff out and made for a lot of the scenes to go long really worked and was very effective.

Soundtrack:
We don’t get a score at all and I would say it was good that there wasn’t one, it made the movie feel more real, we do get some opera music, and a out of place metal song that somehow fits.

Final thoughts:
Funny Games was a daring shocking film that surprised me, and to see such big names as Tim Roth and Naomi Watts doing this remake was something else. The acting was perfect and just made this movie great. I would say this movie is for everyone but I would go out and say that you should see it anyway. The director also did the original Funny Games that I have yet to see, but after watching this I really want to check it out. I give it a 8/10.
