Giallo (2009)

Review by Jeff Hudson

Directed by: Dario Argento

Starring:
Adrien Brody/Enzo
Emmanuelle Seigner/Linda
Elsa Pataky/Celine

Plot:
As the mutilated bodies of beautiful women litter Milan, Avolfi races to find the latest abductee. When Linda (Emmanuelle Seigner) reports her fashion model sister Celine (Elsa Pataky) missing, Avolfi knows the death clock ticks. Now he must step into madness to stop the psychopath.

Acting:
The acting in the film was fair, Adrien Brody(Enzo) was ok as the detective but really lacked character and was pretty dull to say the least. Emmanuelle Seigner(Linda) was also pretty dull and overall the acting wasn’t nothing to brag about, and could of used someone to add a little humor or even life to the movie.

Gore:
We get a couple nasty bits but a lot of the stuff was cut down or off screen which let me down for a Argento flick, We get some off screen stuff, a knife to the neck, a hammer to the head, and a cut off finger. There was a few other things that I wont spoil.

T & A:
Not a thing here, yep pretty dull.

Directing:
Dario has really lost his touch, we don’t get any beautiful colors or cool shots he is know for. Most of the shots were standard and the scenery which I thought he could have taken advantage of was not there. It almost looked like it was meant for T.V. and that’s not good at all.

Soundtrack:
Not to beat a horse to death but man the score was lame for a Argento film, we get some standard classical music and that’s about it.

Final thoughts:
Giallo was a big disappointment, I know Argento hasn’t been on his game but I was hoping with a title like that and he is a master and Giallo films that this could have been good. We are filled with bland cheesy acting, a lack luster score and a bad quick ending that left nothing redeeming about it. It’s sad to say I think Argento’s time is up and this movie is a pass on my list. I give it a 4/10.
