Great Kills: Part One
Article by Bindi Lavelle
You simply can't deny the feeling of a good death scene in a film, whether you enjoy it for its scariness or silliness, its cinematic quality or simply because that character was giving you the shits through the whole film. Because it is an inevitable part of a horror film, let's look at some awesome death scenes.
Tatum- Scream
This one defiantly falls in silly category. This scene sees, Tatum (Rose McGowan) trying to escape ghostface through a cat-flap in the garage door, but the clever villain simply flips the roller-door switch and the now stuck Tatum is squished against the door frame.
Appliance Salesman- Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer
Another one for the violent yet funny pile; this is mainly satisfying to the inner child who wants to throw a massive tantrum to get that shiny new toy. Henry and pal Otis belt a salesman to death because they didn't have enough money for the cool color TV they wanted.
Alderson- Cube
Slicing a person into neat little chunks is something rarely seen outside of cartoons, Cube (and Resident Evil ) however provides a neat opening scene in which this poor guy, is well, cubed. This tight thriller is packed full of other memorable traps as a group of strangers try to make their way out of one totally messed up maze.
Keith Jennings- The omen
But it isn't all fun and games, we must of course reference this classic, with its stunning decapitation scene. Poor Keith David, was just a photographer, helping out Robert Thorn (Gregory Peck) investigate his son's birth family, and what does he get for his trouble? His head sliced off with a sheet of glass!
Anchorman-Scanners
Speaking of heads, Scanners has one of the most memorable news bulletins in film; in which we see the newscaster's head explode. I don't need to explain beyond that why this scene rocks.
Of course I have missed a couple of big ones, which is why I will be finishing this list off next week, because a good death scene needs a proper mention.
