The Horror of Dracula
Review by Jeff
Directed by: Terence Fisher
Starring:
Christopher Lee/Dracula
Peter Cushing/Van Helsing
Michael Gough/Arthur
Melissa Stribling/Mina
Plot:
After Jonathan Harker attacks Dracula at his castle (apparently somewhere in Germany), the vampire travels to a nearby city, where he preys on the family of Harker's fiancée. The only one who may be able to protect them is Dr. van Helsing, Harker's friend and fellow-student of vampires, who is determined to destroy Dracula, whatever the cost.
Acting:
The acting in this film was good and bad, Christopher Lee(Dracula) was awesome when he turns into a vampire he can be scary as hell and has one hell of a presence, Peter Cushing(Van Helsing) is great and is probably the best Van Helsing I have seen, after those two it goes downhill the rest of the cast is nothing to brag about they are just there.
Gore:
This film is very light on the gore, what we do get is some biting and some steaks to the heart, the blood that is shown is like Dawn Of The Dead blood so it looks like paint.
T & A:
Not a thing here, just some cleavage.
Directing:
Fisher does a nice job with this film, there are some cool settings and real nice camera work, the only downside I would say is the movie is too short, it could have been a little longer to get to know the characters better.
Soundtrack:
We get a big loud score, that makes the movie real intense at times, very nice.
Final thoughts:
I was surprised by how good this film was, Christopher Lee was kick ass as Dracula, he has such a presence to him, and it makes the film what it is, I look forward to seeing more of the Dracula films in the Hammer Films series now, if you are into great classic vampire films you have to check this one out. I give it a 8/10.
