The House on Sorority Row (1983)

Review by Jeff Hudson

Directed by: Mark Rosman

Starring:
Kate McNeil/Katherine
Eileen Davidson/Vicki
Lois Hunt/Mrs. Slater
Christopher Lawrence/Dr. Beck

Plot:
A group of girls staying at a sorority house clash with the house's owner, who wants them out. They decide to play a prank on her, but it goes awry and she winds up dead. Panicking, the girls try to hide the body, but someone (or something) witnessed the crime and begins to stalk them.

Acting:
I thought the acting was pretty standard for a lower budget slasher flick. Katie McNeil(Katherine) was a good lead and near the end of the film she really came to life and showed some good stuff. Lois Hunt(Mrs. Slater) was evil but at the same time you felt bad for her and not to spoil anything but I would have liked to seen more of her. The rest of the cast were throw away teens.

Gore:
For most of the film the gore was off screen until the end where we get some good stuff and the aftermath of what has been done. We get some gunshots, a cane to the throat, a blade through the stomach and a slit throat.

T & A:
We get 2 pairs of breasts and that about it don’t blink.

Directing:
Mark did a average job, I mean if you had seen any slasher flicks from the early 1980’2 you pretty much get the same shots and look. I thought he could have had more gore but who knows if the studio cut that out.

Soundtrack:
The score was very well done it was elegant at times and at others was very creepy with the music box theme throughout. We also get a very cheesy butt rock band that plays some lame music.

Final thoughts:
The House on Sorority Row was pretty average nothing I had not really seen and felt pretty slow at times. It was hard to get behind the victims witch hurt the movie a bit for me. I also felt the kills where cut away too soon and hope there is a uncut version out there sometime. I would say check this one out if you’re a die hard slasher fan. I give it a 5/10.
