If I Die Before I Wake (1998)
Review by Jeff Hudson

Directed by: Brian Katkin

Starring:
Stephanie Jones/Lori Beth
Coryanne Sennett/Mary
Muse Watson/Daryl
Michael McCleery/T.J.

Plot:
A family's quiet evening turns into a nightmare when three intruders break in, hell bent on torture and destruction. As the family is taken hostage, only sixteen-year-old Lori Beth and her young sister Mary escape. As the mayhem and torment spin out of control, Lori Beth realizes that she is her family's only hope.

Acting:
The acting in this movie was pretty solid Muse Watson (Daryl) was a excellent scumbag everything about this guy was believable he just made you sick and wanted to see something bad happen to him, Stephanie Jones (Lori Beth) was pretty good for the first half of the film then she got a little unrealistic and did a lot stuff that a normal 16 year old girl would not do. The rest of the cast was good too.

Gore:
This wasn’t a blood feast or anything but some of death scenes were real brutal even if they were off screen you could imagine if your head what happens and sometimes that’s good. We get some off screen stuff, brutal beatings, and some stabbing.

T & A:
None of that stuff in this flick.

Directing:
Brian did a good job with his camera shots and there were some fairly good views that added a lot to the suspense.

Soundtrack:
We get a nice dramatic score that fit real well.

Final thoughts:
I would like to start by saying I wish I could have seen this when it came out because I could imagine it was something that wasn’t put out a lot around 1998 with the whole home invasion thing, but now it’s more put out there and I have seen others like this. Other than some of unrealistic things when the girl is hiding and stuff that happens it’s a pretty good movie but has some nasty harsh stuff a lot of people would most likely shy away from. I would say give it rent. I give it a 6/10.
