Imprint (2006)
Review by Jeff Hudson

Directed by: Takashi Miike
Starring:
Billy Drago/Christopher
Youki Kudoh/The Woman
Plot:
In the Nineteenth Century, in Japan, the American journalist Christopher is traveling through the country searching Komomo, the missing love of his life that he had abandoned years ago promising to come back to her later. He arrives in a shadowy island inhabited by whores and caftans, where he has an encounter with a deformed prostitute that tells that his beloved Komomo had passed away. He asks the woman to tell the story of her life, and the prostitute discloses a dark and cruel story about her life and the sad fate of Komomo.
Acting:
The acting in the movie was real good, Billy Drago(Christopher) was spot on and sometimes he was so serious sounding it was funny, Youki Kudoh(The Woman) was very mysterious and was awesome in her role.
Gore:
Wow there's lots here, we get needles drove under fingernails, needles drove into gums, armpits burned, dead fetuses getting thrown into a river, a hand that has eyes and a mouth coming out of a girls head, and gunshots. There is lots more but I wont tell it all.
T & A:
We get 2 pairs of boobs, but not in the way that you will enjoy it.
Directing:
Miiki did a awesome job here, he really has a way to make you feel very uncomfortable at times, and the film almost feels like a fairy tale, a sick and twisted one.
Soundtrack:
We get a little Japanese music but that’s about it.
Final thoughts:
I was shocked by this movie, it was a lot better than I thought. This was part of the Masters Of Horror series that aired on Showtime but was banned and I see why. I would suggest seeing this film when it comes out on DVD. There was parts in this movie that could barely watch cause it was so disturbing to me, and that's saying a lot from some of the stuff I have seen. I give it a 6/10.
