Intruder (1989)(2011 BD)

Review by David Rupp

The overnight stock crew of a local supermarket find themselves being stalked and slashed by a mysterious maniac.

Written and directed by Scott Spiegel
Starring: Elizabeth Cox, Renée Estevez, Sam Raimi, Ted Raimi, Eugene Robert Glazer and Danny Hicks.

I can not say why this has gone under my radar all these years, but Synapse Films has brought it back into play. The Blu-ray of Intruder has a beautiful crisp clean transfer, almost better than watching it first run in a theatre. I was really pleased with the over all package, great packaging and artwork, DVD and Blu-ray offerings both of wich are directors cut, it just is great quality.
Performance wise you just can't go wrong with the truly powerful psychological twisted performances from both Danny Hicks and David Byrnes. you also get the silliness of Ted Raimi, the stoic cool of Sam Raimi and vunernable strengths of Elizabeth Cox & Renée Estevez. Oh yes ther is a Bruce Campbell appearance as well.
Intruder is a well made late 80s piece that I feel should have cult status, it has that retro cool, the right mix of players, some cheese but not over the top and really nice kills. Plus throw in the extras such as audio commentary with Scott Spiegel, making of featurette, outtakes from the original short and much more.
This is one to add to your collections most definitely, go buy it today. I for one will be watching this again and again.
