I was in for yet another remake disaster, polished twenty-somethings that are hip and stylish, trending to todays youth. Nope! I have to say that this was fairly true to the original, I owe that to the fact they had Meir Zarchi from the 1978 original attached to the project. Even though you have a slightly less earthy look and all the modern technological trappings I feel it played out well. My favorite example is instead of the typical no bars/no signal she drops the cell in the toilet, an all too real phenomenon.
The feel on this remake was great, it had an edgy uncomfortable quality to it. The characters new what they were and went with it. The gang of guys had a more calculating manner in my opinion from the original who seemed more animalistic and instinct driven.
All in all it was a movie that I felt at least came close to living up to the original. I delivered the emotions that the creator wanted to invoke I believe. Brutality, vulerability, what is hidden just behind our eyes?
