Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter (2001)
Review by David Rupp

I would just like to state for the record, this movie is so incredibly messed up, crazy and just plain out there, I loved it. Where else can you get punk rock priests, kung-fu Christ, lesbian vampires, fighting athiests, luchadores and a song and dance number that leaves you slack jawed and questioning notions of reality along with your soul.

Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter (it's even fun to say) was a great offering from first time director Lee Demarbre. Written by Ian Driscoll and starring Phil Caracas, Murielle Varhelyi, Jeff Moffet, Johnny Vegas and Maria Moulton.

The movie looks very grainy and is effective for the feel of the project, like it was shot on cheap filmstock, but it only adds to the whole of it. Same can be said of the over-dubbing which is a bit over the top, but the shots are just beautiful in and of themselves. Just go into this with the thought that the audio and visual aspect are intentional.

The story in a nutshell is lesbians are disappearing, and the church has information that vampires are behind the whole thing. Priests are dispached to go inform Jesus of the evil deeds, which leads to one of the best lines in the film, and a fight scene. He then goes through a transformation followed by a musical number. It just gets crazy from there.

With characters like Johnny Golgotha, Mary Magnum, Santos the Mexican westler and Gloria Oddbottom, how can you go wrong. I reccomend if you have never seen this you at least give it one shot. You'll either love it or hate it. I give it 5/10
