Let The Right One In (2008)
Review by David Rupp

Oskar, a bullied 12-year old, dreams of revenge. He falls in love with Eli, a peculiar girl. She can't stand the sun or food and to come into a room she needs to be invited. Eli gives Oskar the strength to hit back but when he realizes that Eli needs to drink other peoples blood to live he's faced with a choice. How much can love forgive? Let The Right One In is a story both violent and highly romantic, set in the Stockholm suburb of Blackeberg in 1982.

Directed by: Tomas Alfredson and based on a book by: John Ajvide Lindqvist. Starring: Kåre Hedebran, Lina Leandersson, Per Ragnar, Henrik Dahl, Karin Bergquist, Peter Carlberg

This movie flew under my radar totally, someone I know told me I had to check it out, so I did. I was almost immediately glad I did. You will have to deal with subtitles, tough shit, the reward far outweighs the cons. I'm not quite sure where to start, the whole film has a dark quality you don't even realize is there. It's brilliant and fresh, takes you places you haven't been before. The acting was so good I almost got sucked in and forgot it was a movie, you actually feel and care for the characters. They have depth and growth, love, fear, this is a great new spin on the vampire gernre.

The effects are practical for the most part, and when done are very very effective. They are used to underline a scene not become the focus. Scenes were shot artfully and skillful, great exterior shots. Music was well placed and completed the feel. It is with great pleasure to say to you if you have a chance to see this, please do, if only to prove me wrong. 10/10
