Thank Lord for Lordi

The Eurovision song contest, is easily the biggest all singing, all dancing pop music spectacular in the world. In 2006, the contest was not won by a pop princess or squeaky clean boy-band, no, in 06 it was won by a band of brutal looking monsters: Lordi.
The Finish band's song Heavy Metal Hallelujah, tool no prisoners; their amazing costumes, worthy of any modern horror masterpiece, the theatrics of T-Rex on Elm Street and not to forget the thunderous song itself, scored the highest ever tally in the competition's 50 plus year history.
In the vein of Alice Cooper, the band set out to recreate the horror movie experience through music. Formed in 1996 by Mr.Lordi, the band quickly began to take their performance beyond a simple slap of make-up into full latex suits.
Following their Eurovision victory, which was also Finland's first winning entry, Lordi went on to headline Ozfest 07 and play at the Waken festival in Germany. It just goes to show, that horror has a place everywhere, even at Eurovision.
