Macabre (1980)
Review by Jeff Hudson

Directed by: Lamberto Bava
Starring:
Bernice Stegers/Jane
Stanko Molnar/Robert
Veronica Zinny/Lucy
Fernando Pannullo/Leslie
Plot:
A middle-aged woman, traumatized from the death of her adulterous lover, moves into a room at a New Orleans boarding house where the blind landlord becomes suspicious to her activities of continuing her affair with her dead lover.
Acting:
The acting in this movie was pretty bad, the is though I cant decide if it was the acting or the horrible dubbing and poor accents of New Orleans people. Bernice Stegers(Jane) was pretty annoying and was meant to be this sexy woman that was just a middle aged hag that grossed me out. Stanko Molnar(Robert) was pretty good as the blind man and you could really feel sorry for the poor guy, he gets treated like crap and tricked by people a lot in the film. Veronica Zinny(Lucy) was a very dislikeable little girl that should have been written as a nicer girl not a awful brat.
Gore:
The gore was pretty light here and judging by the DVD cover this looked like a splatter flick, I was very let down. We do get a kid drowned, a guy impaled, a guy shoved down the stairs and a face burned? Yea I am not sure on that last one.
T & A:
We get a full frontal shot of the middle aged hag here….what did I do to deserve this?
Directing:
Lamberto sure is nothing like his father. This was a awful shot film that had some very bad editing. We get lots of shots that could be cut down where nothing important is going on and made the film drag like hell.
Soundtrack:
We get a seductive jazzy score that was very corny. I do get it was because of the film being shot in New Orleans but man it was lame.
Final thoughts:
Wow was I let down here, the cover and plot of the flick sounded pretty cool and being directed by Lamberto Bava I was thinking this could be pretty cool, but it was far from that. The main problem was that there was a huge lack of killing and a lot of wasted time with nothing going on. We get a span of like one hour of no killing and just the main woman walking around this apartment doing nothing but taking a bath and being a tease to the blind dude…lame! I say stay far away from this movie, there is nothing redeeming about it. I give it a 1/10.
