Maniac on the Loose (2008)
Review by David Rupp

A patient described as extremely dangerous has escaped from the local psychiatric hospital. Fearing he'll lose his job if word gets out, the head of the hospital, Dr. Franklin Grimm, desperately attempts to cover up the escape. Meanwhile, there's a Maniac on the Loose.

I have made a promise not to disclose spoilers or reveal plot secrets, but man is it going to be hard not to spill the beans on this baby. Once more Steve Hudgins, one of the forces behind The 3rd Floor, a minimalist breakthrough of an independent movie that proves you just need a good tale to sell the scares, has done it again. With his new production company, Big Biting Pig, he delivers a thrilling carnival ride with more twists than Hitchcockian fare and timeline jumps to rival Tarantinos best. Another show of intelligent, thrilling storytelling, and some nice camera work, effects and to be quite honest acting. Even though campy at times it just adds to the allure of the movie.

Starring: Nick Faust, Steve Hudgins, Randy Hardesty, Jessica Cook, PJ Woodside and Tom Dolan. Written & Directed by Steve Hudgins, we get to see some growth and maturity from their first effort. Good shots, effects are spare but present enough to reveal the tone, sound is slightly over exagerated in spots and in others hard to hear dialog, but tolerable. You'll even get some SPECIAL FEATURES on this one, complete with gag reel.

I have to say I like this movie and reccomend you check it out, check out the guys over at Big Biting Pig for details. Once again this will fall into my category of a great beer soaked Friday night with pizza and pals. Dig in. 8/10
