Martyrs (2009)
Review by Jeff Hudson

Directed by: Pascal Laugier

Starring:
Morjana Alaoui/Anna
Mylene Jampanoi/Lucie
Catherine Begin/Mademoiselle

Plot:
Lucie, a 10 year old girl, is found wandering in the streets, bruised and bloodied. Unable to say who did this to her, or why, she is placed in a hospital where she meets Anna, another young girl who had been abused. Fifteen years later, with Anna s help, Lucie sets out to get revenge on her attackers. When she believes she has found the couple who abused her, she confronts them ...and that is when the terror truly begins.

Acting:
Mylene Jampanoi(Lucie) and Morjana Alaoui(Anna) both gave some real gripping performances, the emotions that they showed us was amazing. Catherine Begin(Mademoiselle) was good as the evil old lady she was pretty quiet but did enough to make you dislike her.

Gore:
The gore in this flick was awesome the French really know how to deliver and make stuff look ultra realistic, we get some very nasty gunshots, cutting, a head smashed in, a slit throat, and a skinning.

T & A:
If I am correct we get 3 pairs of boobs but they are nothing you want to see so don’t get your hopes up here.

Directing:
Pascal did a wonderful job making this film look very bleak and filled with dread, almost like a sad poem put on screen.

Soundtrack:
We get a very intense and gripping score that adds big time to this flick.

Final thoughts:
Martyrs was a excellent film that was filled with such pain, dread, and misery that it felt so real. After the movie was over it left me thing all week and that doesn’t happen a lot. The make up effects were top notch, the film itself looked fantastic and it was just such a good intense, gripping, mind provoking film that will stick with you. I highly recommend this film to anyone. I give it a 10/10.
