Master of the Flying Guillotine (1976)

Review by Mari Lynne Rupp

This is absolute classic grindhouse in that it is written, directed by and stars the same person. In this case, Jimmy Wang Yu, who portrays the one-armed boxer. The premise is, The Master of the Flying GUillotine, Fung Sheng Wu Chi, has come to avenge his disciples who failed to assasinate the One-Armed Boxer, killing many innocent people in his path. There's a fantastic tournament scene obviously the inspiration for similar scenes in the popular Kurt Russell film "Big Trouble in Little China", which just blows you away with the action and ballet-like movements of the fighters. At times hard to follow, but showing off very eloquent fight scenes and lots of blood and guts, even if you don't like Kung Fu movies (Then wtf is wrong with you??) this would be an amusing evening curled up with snacks and a six pack.
