Monster Dog
Review by Mari Lynne Rupp

It is no secret that Alice Cooper is my absolute favorite rock star in the world.. I belong to many newsgroups online tracking his every move and I have a collection of photos tracking his career. So believe me when I tell you that his first feature film, "Monster Dog", is really terrible. So very terrible.

The directing leaves much to be desired and the stilted acting and forced dialogue do nothing to build tension for the predictable and disappointing climax.

The premise is a rock star (played by Alice...Big stretch for him, I know...) returns to his childhood home to shoot a video and stirs up many legends, bad feelings and secrets among the locals. Most of it is mystery surrounding his father's death and a "monster dog" that used to terrorize the town.

Throw in some prophetic dreams, a madman stalking the band and you've pretty much got all the horror cliché's. Or a very, very, sad try, seeming like someone wanted badly to corner the slasher market in Spain.

This movie also features Victoria Vera, Carlos Santurio, Barta Barri and other actors I've never heard of, written by Claudio Fragasso.

It is rumored that Alice took this role on the condition it never be released into the United States. Well....At least it paid for his rehab bills. If you fellow Cooper-Troopers want to see our idol in a better light, rent "Prince of Darkness". It's spookier, and better written.
