Monster in the Closet (1986)

Review by Jeff Hudson

Directed by: Bob Dahlin

Starring:
Donald Grant/Richard
Denise DuBarry/Diane
Paul Walker/Professor
Henry Gibson/Dr. Pennyworth

Plot:
After several people and a dog are found dead in their closets a "mild-mannered" reporter, a college professor, her son and a befuddled professor band together to uncover the mystery but not without involving the U.S. Army and mass panic.

Acting:
The acting in this film was a lot of fun. Donald Grant(Richard) was the lead all around nice guy that just wants to do good and help. Henry Gibson(Dr. Pennyworth) added some good humor as the odd ball scientist. And to top it all off we get Paul Walker(Professor) as the smart little kid out to save the day.

Gore:
This was a PG film so we don’t get any blood at all just a lot of implied kills. We gets some monster attacks, gunshots and some explosions.

T & A:
I was shocked with how family friendly this was we get 1 pair of boobs, but hey this was the 80’s when Sixteen Candles gave us some too.

Directing:
Bob did a nice job with the location and setting of the film. He did a nice job making this a fun family horror flick that stands up to this day and also gave us a sweet looking monster.

Soundtrack:
The score was nice and eerie and at other times was nice and pleasant.

Final thoughts:
Monster in the Closet is one of those forgotten films of the 80’s that I don’t think a lot of people know about. Troma released this flick under there label and that’s how I found it, and this was a weird release for them with no gore and being PG. It was also pretty funny to see Paul Walker in his first ever credits, I would have not know it was him if I didn’t watch the credits. I would say this is a fun movie for the whole family to watch and say its worth a rent. I give it a 6/10.
