Neon Maniacs (1986)
Review by Jeff

Directed by: Joseph Mangine

Starring:
Clyde Hayes/Steven
Leilani Sarelle/Natalie
Donna Locke/Paula

Plot:
Something disturbing is going on in San Francisco each and every night. Certain locals who are out at night, are being set upon and slain, by someone or something, to be found in the morning mutilated or parts missing. Occasionally they are never found at all ditto the parts that go missing. Tonight one teen is going to witness a massacre at the hands of this lethal mystery. And might be able to shed some light over it to the cops. That is if she survives the night.

Acting:
The acting in this film was pretty bad for the most part, Clyde Hayes(Steven) was real cheesy and over acted most of the time, Leilani Sarelle(Natlie) was ok but didn’t really add a lot for her role as the main girl in the film, Donna Locke(Paula) was pretty good as the kid into horror films, and I thought was the only bright spot of acting in this film.

Gore:
We get a lot of kills but nothing here was that messy at all, we get a cut off hand, cut off arms, a arrow to the back, guy hung, heart ripped out, arrow through the head, a slit throat, and some other stuff along with some off screen kills.

T & A:
We get one brief boob shot at the start of the film, but don’t blink or you will miss it.

Directing:
I can see where Joseph was trying to go with this film but there just was nothing really here to offer, some of the Maniacs looked kind of cool, and others looked like shit, and the effects were ok at times, but it just seemed like lots of stuff was cut away too soon.

Soundtrack:
We get some shitty 80’s pop/rock music, the battle of the bands scene is a joke to watch, and the score to the film was ok but didn’t really stand out too much.

Final thoughts:
This was a film I was looking forward to seeing, I mean the plot seemed cool, and sounded like something fresh that I missed out on in the 80’s, but I was wrong, this film was lame and very boring, and what the hell is the point to naming it Neon Maniacs?, there was nothing that had to do with neon in this whole movie. I might be judging this film to hard but I can’t see anything good about it at all, so rent it at your own risk. I give it a 4/10.
