Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Review by Jeff Hudson

Directed by: George Romero

Starring:
Duane Jones/Ben
Judith O’Dea/Barbra
Karl Hardman/Harry
Keith Wayne/Tom

Plot:
Siblings Johnny and Barbara whine and pout their way through a graveside visit in a small Pennsylvania town, but it all takes a turn for the worse when a zombie kills Johnny. Barbara flees to an isolated farmhouse where a group of people are already holed up. Bickering and panic ensue as the group tries to figure out how best to escape, while hoards of undead converge on the house.

Acting:
The acting in this film is real good, Duane Jones(Ben) plays a great strong lead and is very believable in his role, Judith O’Dea(Barbra) plays a good role with her being in shock throughout most of the flick you feel for her and what she is going through, Karl Hardman(Harry) plays the asshole to perfection you nothing more then to see this guy get what’s coming to him.

Gore:
This being a black and white flick we don’t get the red bloodshed but we do get some disturbing images of flesh eating, we also get some gunshots, heads bashed in, a crowbar to the head, some zombies set on fire, and more stabbing.

T & A:
We get one naked zombie lady.

Directing:
Mr. Romero does a wonderful job setting some great tension and mood with the people trapped inside the house, we also get a great setting with a scenario that many will use through decades to come.

Soundtrack:
The score is great is real big and strong, at some points it seemed a little too much but not something that will drive you away.

Final thoughts:
What can you say about Night of the Living Dead that hasn’t been said before, this is the original zombie film outside of the voodoo zombie movies from back in the day, it’s the first to show us the undead coming back to eat your flesh. This is a masterpiece that I feel everyone should see, we get great characters, a real good setting and mood that still gives me the chills today. This is a must own flick. I give it a 10/10.
