Off the Beaten Path (2004)
Review by Jeff Hudson

Directed by: Jason Stephenson
Starring:
Todd Hanson/Chuck
Jessie Welsch/Brenda
Tommy Thompson/Randy
Carrie Sizemore/Dina
Plot:
A trio of thrill seekers led by Chuck , his girlfriend Dina and a videographer friend named Randy set out for a small town called Gateway. Their intentions were to make a short film for the internet about an abandoned backwoods property with an unsettling past that a local woman from Gateway named Brenda has invited them to explore. Note heeding Brenda's repeated warnings to head back after finding ritualistic items, the group of them manage to provoke an evil legend that should have been left forgotten. Before the night is through, who ill live to tell this story.
Acting:
The acting in this flick was very poor, our main guy Todd Hanson(Chuck) was very annoying and along with the rest of the cast dropped the “F” bomb way too much. Tommy Thompson(Randy) was a smartass but not in a funny way, and the rest was just there.
Gore:
Other than a couple stabbings we don’t get jack shit, this film was dry and could have used some good old fashioned gore.
T & A:
Once again along with the gore the flick was dry.
Directing:
Jason tried to make this like the Blair Witch with the camera work, but it also went away from the first person view and that hurt it because you can see the flick looking like shit because of this but when we get away from the first person angle it should look better but it doesn’t.
Soundtrack:
Other than the ending credits song we don’t a score or music, like I said if it was just shot first person found footage I wouldn’t have a problem with this but it’s not and they could have used a creepy score.
Final thoughts:
Off the Beaten Path was a very sorry rip off of The Blair Witch mixed with some Evil Dead, but it doesn’t have any of the suspense or the gore so your left with a very boring flick, and a annoying cast. I got this in a 50 pack of movies so I wasn’t too let down but at the same time I would say to skip this flick all together. I give it a 2/10.
