One Missed CAll (2008)
Review by Mari Lynne Rupp

Despite this movie being yet another American remake of a Japanese thriller, ("Chakushin Ari") the suspense and acting in this movie isn't bad at all.
Starring Shannyn Sossamon, Azura Skye (28 days, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Ray Wise (Dead End), this movie starts out with a haunted and mysterious death, and continues, with each victim's death being foretold by mysterious voicemails, depicting their last screams before their bizarre demises.
The lead character, Beth Raymond (Sossamon) teams up with Detective Ted Summers to find the common thread in her friends' deaths and the mystery behind the strange and macabre messages. Things become crucial when Beth herself gets her own 'death message' and she traces the source of the calls to a mysterious fire in a closed-down hospital. The ending is predictable, but not painfully so, with a few wry twists thrown in. I doubt I'd watch it in a theatre, but it was just the thing for a cozy night in with my spouse and a six-pack of beer.
