Oomph - Truth Or Dare

Standout track: Uhhhhhh.....
Before getting into reviewing this album, I had to look Oomph up on the web to gain a bit of background. Apparently, they have been around for roughly 20 years, considered the proud parents of the Neue Deutsche Haerte" movement (translation: "New German Hardness"), have inspired such popular bands as Rammstein and Eisbrecher, considered compatriots of industrial metal bands like Die Krupps. With all of that build-up, hearing this album was an incredible letdown. "Truth Or Dare" is an English compilation of songs originally in German, and for NDH-styled metal, it sure feels like something got lost in the translation. Speaking German, I'd rather give this material another try in its original language--if the music is as shiny-clean and over-produced as this, I doubt it will save my opinion. It could just be me. I've always felt metal should have some level of grit to it--when it doesn't, it comes off as gutless. Truth or dare? I'll take truth, and suggest to the industrial metal fans to give their earlier material a shot.
