Pelts (2006)
Review by Jeff
Directed by: Dario Argento
Starring:
Meat Loaf/Jake Feldman
John Saxton/Jeb Jameson
Ellen Ewusie/Shana
Link Baker/Lou
Plot:
Sleazy fur trader Jake Feldman (Meat Loaf) will do anything for quality skin. When Jake crosses paths with fur trapper Jameson (John Saxon) offering raccoon pelts caught at the sight of an ancient burial place, Jake jumps at the chance to cash in by stealing them in order to win the heart of a stripper named Shana (Ellen Ewusie). But little does Jake know is that the raccoon pelts are cursed and will bring bloody revenge against anyone who touches them.
Acting:
The acting in this film was pretty good, Meat Loaf(Jake Feldman) was spot on as the sleaze ball perve, this guy just looked perfect for the role and he didn’t a nice job, Ellen Ewusie(Shana) played the role of a stripper well but I wouldn’t find it that hard to do, and we also get a cameo from John Saxton(Jameson) to bad he didn’t have a bigger role here.
Gore:
This is where the film shines big time, we get lots of animal pelts, a head bashed in, a face ripped in half, guy rips his own guts out, face sewing action, a self skinning, and a hand ripped off, wow this shit is great, some of the best gore scenes I have scene in some time.
T & A:
Ellen shows us her goods most of film and other than that we get like 4 other pairs of boobs at the strip club, and lots of naked raccoons.
Directing:
This was not most of Argento’s films but it was well shot, and the gore effects were awesome, but I was really hoping to see some real good classic Argento stuff like slick camera shots and great use of color, but yea none of that here.
Soundtrack:
We get a amazing score, almost too good for this film.
Final thoughts:
I didn’t know what to think coming into this film, it was nothing like a typical Argento film but it was pretty cool and had a very original plot. The gore alone is worth checking this out, I would say to give this film a rent or heck if you’re a huge Argento fan buy it cause it’s only like 10$. I give it a 7/10.
