After Jasmine’s husband, Marcus, abandons her and her two daughters unexpectedly, Jasmine is basically forced to go into escorting (in this case, it’s really prostitution) to make ends meet. Being basically forced into prostitution isn’t a new story, but what makes this one stand out is that the lead character, Jasmine, actually likes having sex with multiple strangers: including a teenage boy and masochistic senator. That she likes her job is apparent in the darkly passion-filled scenes that leap from the pages in mesmerizing detail. However, Jasmine isn’t just passionate about her new-found career, she also falls hard for a man named Lorenzo outside of her work. There’s a great plot twist about 2/3 of the way through the novel that actually had me gasp out loud! This book doesn’t just gloss over the potential dangers of being in the prostitution business either; Jasmine is careful to use a condom with customers, and she ultimately ends up getting out of the business before possibly having a violent customer, etc. The way the storyline unfolds as she exits her life as a “happy hooker” for something even better also made this a good read. Definitely recommended for something different and entertaining, though it’s of note that it isn’t for everyone as it clearly states on the back cover: ~FOR ADULTS ONLY~
