Race with the Devil (1975)
Review by Mari Lynne Rupp

Frank (Warren Oates) and Roger (Peter Fonda) and their wives (Loretta Swit, Lara Parker) take off for Colorado in a recreational vehicle, looking forward to some skiing and dirt biking. While camping en route, they witness a Satanic ritual sacrifice, but the local sheriff (R.G.Armstrong) finds no evidence to support their claims and urges them to continue on their vacation. On the way, however, they find themselves repeatedly attacked by cult members, and they take measures to defend themselves.
I adore Grindhouse movies, and this one certainly delivered its grainy, low-budget, car-race-and-crash goodness to my eager brain. Peter Fonda and Warren Oates do wonderfully with thier over-the-top performances and crazy chases (in an R.V. no less!) with Lana Parker and Loretta Swit (pre-HotLips role) playing their long-suffering wives dragged along for the hellish ride after Frank and Roger witness a sacrifice/murder as part of a "Satanic" ritual. (For practical purposes, I will refrain from pointing out the inaccuracies of the so-called rituals and witchcraft.)
What more can I say? There's suggested nudity, cheesy lines, gratuitous alcohol use, crazy chases, dodgy lawmen and snakes! All wrapped up with the shocking nihilistic ending that 1970's grindhouse is well known for. 8/10.
