Rare Exports (2010)

Review by Adam C. Thomas

This is a Finnish horror/thriller movie about some Reindeer hunters in Finland who get stiffed after an archaeological dig close to their homes kill all the local reindeer. This does not sit well with the hunters; that's how they make their money. They decide to do what any group of realists would do, and break into their facility to steal from them. What they find, however, changes the game entirely. This group has dug up the grave of Santa Claus. Or so they thought.
I really liked this movie. I watched it out of season (shame), and found it thoroughly entertaining. The concept was unique, the story was really well executed, and the cinematography was, at points, breathtaking. That is of course, until you get to the army of naked santas. I won't ruin it for you, but trust me, the ending of this movie will definitely make you question your entire childhood.
I feel like a broken record sometimes, but Europe and Asia both put out some of the best horror this generation has ever seen. If you really want to see truly great, shocking horror, you need to check out movies from these areas. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.
