Redneck Zombies (1987)
Review by Jeff Hudson

Directed by: Pericles Lewnes

Starring:
Anthony Burlington-Smith/Bob
Lisa M. DeHaven/Lisa
James H. Housely/Wilbur
Zoofeet/Elly May

Plot:
When some rednecks accidentally drink a barrel of nuclear waste they transform into tobacco chewing, flesh eating, cannibals, meanwhile, seven city slickers on vacation get lost in the woods and encounter a nightmare world of these illiterate, and extremely hungry, undead Appalachians. While the tourists hikers use all their wits and courage to stay alive, more and more down home types drink the nasty brew until Redneck Zombies are everywhere. What started as a scenic nature hike turns into a bloodbath of dismemberment and cannibalism!

Acting:
The acting in this movie was pretty bad for the most part, Anthony Burlington-Smith(Bob) was real funny and I felt gave a lot of effort in his role, Zoofeet(Elly May) played a gay redneck and did a pretty funny job, The rest of the cast was just there and didn’t add a lot to the movie other than getting killed.

Gore:
There was tons of awesome gore in this movie, we get a guy cut with a razor, lots of flesh ripped off and eaten, guts eaten, heads cut off, a funny autopsy scene, a throat ripped out, gunshots, eyes gouged out, a head crushed, a hammer to the head, and a spoon to the head.

T & A:
We get one brief breast shot here.

Directing:
Pericles did a great job for the budget he had, this was shot on video and had the same feel to it as cannibal campout or flicks like that, the gore was great, but the zombie makeup looked like shit, almost like they took corn flakes and stuck it to the zombies faces.

Soundtrack:
We get a cool score, and a kickass Redneck Zombies song throughout the film.

Final thoughts:
Redneck Zombies is like most of your shot on video gore flicks, it’s nothing to take serious and is a fun movie to watch while kicking back some beer. One thing I noticed is that there was some scenes they took from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, that was kind of funny, but overall it’s a good fun movie to watch, and I would say if you enjoy the 80’s shot on video stuff this is a must see. I give it a 7/10.
