Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008)
Review by David Rupp

In the year 2056 - the not so distant future - an epidemic of organ failures devastates the planet. Out of the tragedy, a savior emerges: GeneCo, a biotech company that offers organ transplants, for a price. Those who miss their payments are scheduled for repossession and hunted by villainous Repo Men. In a world where surgery addicts are hooked on painkilling drugs and murder is sanctioned by law, a sheltered young girl searches for the cure to her own rare disease as well as information about her family's mysterious history. After being sucked into the haunting world of GeneCo, she is unable to turn back, as all of her questions will be answered at the wildly anticipated spectacular event: The Genetic Opera.

Directed by: Darren Lynn Bousman Written By: Darren Smith & Terrance Zdunich. Starring: Alexa Vega, Paul Sorvino, Anthony Head, Sarah Brightman, Paris Hilton, Bill Moseley, Nivek Ogre & Terrance Zdunich.

I'm not a HUGE fan of musicals, operas and the like, but I was really impressed by Repo!. The sets were awesome, lighting, sound, acting all top notch. All around this was an enjoyable film, I found the story was an entity that draws you in, holds on and takes you into the depths of the strange, and sometime desperate choices that some people make.

The performances were strong, and Paris Hilton, who in my opinion showed some weak skills in House of Wax, was bang on, here. Acting and singing she made some jaws drop when we saw what she did. Ultimately, this was a bad move for Lionsgate, who dropped the ball earlier with Midnight Meat Train. They should of, once again in my opinion, instead of engaging in inter office polotics, crushed the box offices with these original films swimming in a sea of remakes, re-imaginings and regurgitations.

I hughly reccomend you the dear fan get this as soon as it is released, or if one of the last legs of the road show are near you, by all means go. 10/10
