Riotgod - Riotgod

Review by Josh Felty

Rating: ****
If you love driving guitar riffs and thunderous rhythms weaved in with eclectic vocal and harmonic stylings, you will greatly appreciate Riotgod and their self-titled debut. To set the stage, this is a supergroup of sorts combining some Monster Magnet with a dash of Psycho Daisy. Great lovechildren of songs are conceived with such a mash-up, including some instrumentals ("Omega") and expertly concocted pile-drivers ("Horizon", "The Time Is Now"). I can imagine "The Time Is Now" actually being the opening track for a medieval epic directed by, say, Rob Zombie or someone. I really appreciated this record, not because it wholly reminds me of Monster Magnet (it does, but transcends the common response comparison) but because it essentially kicks you in the teeth and pays no mind to whether or not you're ready for more.
Rather than brag any more about Riotgod, I'll let you free from my word-shackles so you may listen on your own accord.
